These 4 podcasts explore the Legacy of the Endell Street Military Hospital, the only British army hospital to have been established and run by women during WWI. Opened in 1915 on the site of a former Victorian workhouse by Suffragette doctors Flora Murray and Louisa Garrett Anderson, its staff of 180 women treated over 26,000 in-patients and performed over 7,000 surgical operations.
In 2018 a group of local volunteers came together to learn research and recording skills as part of a Heritage Lottery funded project, and they created these podcasts to share their findings about what happened to the hospital and its female staff members after the war ended.

Making a Dent
Hanging high under a famous roof, the huge white dial and gold hands of the St Pancras station clock does its job telling travellers the time. But did you know it has also travelled and has its own surprising story to tell?
Jean Jacyna of the Camden Tour Guides Association pieces together the story with help from Josie Murray, Senior Heritage Advisor at HS1, Ian and Pam Thompson from Nottingham and the former curator of the British Horological Institute Museum, Viscount Alan Middleton.

The Ding Dong
Jo Lynch has lived near the Islington/Camden border all her life. As a child she’d walk from her home in Islington over to the land where the Maiden Lane Estate is to play. Back then, this was a wasteland with a band of misfits hanging out on it and an adventure play park. It went by the name of the Ding Dong.

The New River

The story of London's first Mosque
AbdulMaalik Tailor (of the Camden Tour Guides Association) has discovered the location of London’s first documented Mosque. It was opened in 1895 in Albert Street in Camden by a man called Haji Mohammed Dollie.
AbdulMaalik takes us on a journey across North London as we uncover the incredible life of Haji Mohammed Dollie.
