Camden Councillor Angela Mason talks to CCRadio about Universal Credit
Angela Mason, Camden Councillor and lead on matters concerning children and families, talked with Camden Community Radio about her concerns re the roll out of the Government’s policy of Universal Credit to Camden.
All new claims for Child Tax Credit, Housing Benefit, Income Support, Income-based JobSeekers Allowance, Income-related Employment & Support Allowance and working tax credit will be replaced by Universal Credit and claims will have to be made online rather than in person.
In 2019, all Housing benefit claims, excluding those of pensioners are to be replaced by Universal credit. Early rollout of the scheme suggests that it will drive people into deeper poverty and great hardship.

The Fitzrovia Mural
Amber, aka the American Tour Guide in London, used to pass the Fitzrovia Mural everyday without giving it a second thought. Now it is the first stop of her tours of the local area. She introduces us to the history of the fascinating work of art in a public space. Helping her to tell the story are Kristina O’Donnell, a descendant of characters in the mural, and Richard Unwin from Eazl, a creative agency that have been involved in efforts to restore the mural.
This story is part of Camden Tour Guides tales of objects around the borough of Camden.

Sound Installation at Fitzrovia Chapel by Scanner
Electronic musician Scanner (otherwise known as Robin Rimbaud) is world-famous for his powerful ambient works. He is creating a new sound installation for the Fitzrovia Chapel, which used to be the chapel of the old Middlesex Hospital before it was demolished. The piece will be made of snippets of recordings from people who used to work in the hospital and will play as part of FitzFest in June.
I spoke to Scanner about the piece, the power of buildings and the changing nature of London.
