Depression can affect anyone. In the UK, around 1 in 5 people experience depression or anxiety according to official figures (*). In Camden, about 28 000 people were described as suffering from depression in 2014-2015 (**). At least 1 in 10 of the borough’s population… Depression is all too common. Clinical psychologist at iCope, a psychological therapies service in Camden and Islington, Dr. Helen Page explains what the symptoms are and gives essential advices to help us cope with it.

iCope is a NHS service that provides, among other things, talking therapies to people suffering from psychological problems such as anxiety and depression (which could be complemented, of course, by medication provided by GPs). Refugee Community Kitchen also helping in the streets of Camden
After volunteering at the camps of Calais and Dunkirk in France, they bring their help to those who have nothing in the streets of Camden. For about nine weeks now, the Refugee Community Kitchen (RCK) has been offering – along with the local NGO Streets Kitchen – hot meals and support to those who most need it. We met Janie Mac, one of the coordinators, on a cold Wednesday night just outside Camden Town tube station where a temporary “canteen” has been set up. Janie says RCK gives people essential support that the government simply fails to provide.
After Camden the organisation wants to expand into other areas of London.

Interview with Mayor Larraine Revah
Larraine Revah became Mayor of Camden in May. She’s thoroughly enjoyed her busy first six months of civic duties and is looking forward to what the next half year will bring. One of the priorities of her tenure is to help raise funds for a charity called KIDS. Indeed, this month she’s hosting an elegant afternoon tea at the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel: some tickets are still available for this event which includes an exclusive tour of the venue and a lot of cake! Larraine came into Camden Community Radio and, in conversation with our reporter Catherine Carroll, talked about what she gets up to as Mayor and revealed her special connection to KIDS.

Take Charge of Your Waste - Why Compost?
When Camden Community Radio’s Cina Aissa went to collect her free compost bin at Regis Road Recycling Centre, she met Alex Rainbow from London Community Resource Network. She asked why free compost bins were being distributed in North London and what was the point of making compost. She heard about taking charge of our own waste and a number of other projects, including community food composting, textile re-use and furniture restoration. Hear all about it!!
