What's On In Camden - January 10th 2015
There’s plenty to chose from at the start of the new year. Michael Boyd’s hotly anticipated production of Orfeo is opening at the Roundhouse this week. Also at the Roundhouse classes for anyone aged 11-25 are starting back up, including a chance to learn Street Circus skills. At the Camden Arts Centre you can learn how to build an otter’s den with artist Ruth Ewan. Alternatively, you can visit a book launch at Housmans radical bookshop or drop by an exciting new art installation opening at the WAC building.

Camden Green Gym celebrates its 2nd Birthday
CCRadio’s David Kirkwood brings us the lowdown on Camden’s ‘Green Gym’. Just what is it that attracts people? A unique combination of visiting interesting places, doing some physical work and meeting new people seems to be on the agenda. Volunteers get a great deal from the activities that contribute to both environmental improvements and personal development. People like learning new skills and doing useful work that they can see the impact of very quickly. Its good for your physical and mental health and the hundreds of people who get involved also discover small places they did not know were so close to them. Hear all about it. Ashiana - A refuge that helps people trapped in Forced Marriages
Over the past few months the problem of Forced Marriage and so called honour-based violence has been in the headlines, not least with the tragic murder of a north London teenager. In December 2009 Mehmet Goran was jailed for the murder of his 15 year old daughter Tulay in an “honour” killing.
East London based Ashiana are a domestic violence support project that has helped many people across the capital, mainly women, escape the trap of forced marriage. They have also recently set up a new refuge. Ben Cooper went to their offices in Leytonstone and spoke to director Shaminder Ubhi.
