Freddy Chick presents Camden Newscast. We have news of women fighting for control of their bellies tolling the bell at Irish Diaspora Conference; a report from the first of a new series of monthly family fun days at Maiden Lane Community Centre; a detailed look at whether Olympics funding for team sports is being slimmed too far and we talk to Camden Buskers who are taking to politics as their court bid fails to support their efforts to keep live music in the streets.

Camden Newscast - 20th February 2014
Marita Hutson has been looking into food banks in the locality, talking to users of the service and to Dorothea Hackman of the St Pancras food bank.
Freddy Chick discovers that all the earlier supporters of HS2 had been unable to attend the most recent meeting on HS2. Local MP, Frank Dobson set out the range of problems for local people re HS2. Camden Council Leader said that 200 Council homes and a local school would be demolished if the current proceed. Transport for London spoke against the current proposals as did local Stanley Johnson. Political and Legal moves to change the scheme have failed to stop it so far, but the fight goes on. Make your views known using the links on right of this page.
Lousie Morris of Central American Women’s Network brings news of human rights abuses by international firms in Guatamala and Costa Rica where they are failing to follow the law that requires consultation with indigenous communities about use of the land, but governments cannot afford to take them on. Monsanto modifications to plants opposed by 52 countries; forces farmers to buy new seeds each year, Arms firm tries to promote guns on back of concerns for Indian women’s safety! Apprenticeships in Camden - One Hundred in One Hundred
Youth unemployment at the UK rose sharply after the economic crash and remains stubbornly high. There are fears this could be leading to another ‘lost generation’ of Britain’s youth.
Camden Council’s apprenticeship team are dedicated to helping young people into work. In Spring/Summer 2013 they ran an initiative called ‘Camden 100 in 100’. The idea was to create one-hundred apprenticeships in the borough in one-hundred days.
To find out more about the scheme, Camden Community Radio interviewed Rahima Khanum, an apprentice at the Wellcome Trust on Euston Road, and Brian Lim, her manager. We also spoke to Michael Pratt, from the council’s apprenticeship team, and councillor Valerie Leech.
